I've done the Starbucks live performance series off and on for about a year now. These gigs at the venerable coffee venue vary greatly by degree of audience appreciation. A few locations always provide a good crowd. Others-- you just can't tell. The solo spots pay more than the singer/songwriter round-robin formats, but the latter are much more fun. The Glen Burnie round-robin on this date reunited me with friends Jerry Bresee and Carey Colvin. The vagaries of traffic in the D.C.-Baltimore corridor worked against Jerry and Carey, who made the trek together from Sterling, VA. I had to start solo. But when they arrived, we quickly expanded the stage.
Carey Colvin shared with us a number of original songs, including "Soft Side of Me" and "Gulf of Mexico," both of which appear on her demo tape. Jerry Bresee offered his CD to the crowd, and used his spot to feature his jazz-folk favorites such as "Night Light" and "Route 7." Carey provided harmonies on several of Jerry's songs. We got a very welcome surprise visit from Annapolis-based singer/songwriter
Mary Byrd Brown, who took time out from her own VERY busy performance schedule to check out our act.
Byrdie and Carey mugged a bit for the camera during a break.
