Annapolis on a summer holiday weekend is usually jammed with yacht-savvy vacationers. This day was no exception, but a stroll up and away from the dock brought us to the 49 West Coffeehouse, where Mary Byrd Brown enjoys a regular gig. Byrdie makes her home not too far from Annapolis, and over the past couple of years, she has made the town hers. As a full-time musician, Byrdie is a prolific songwriter and crowd pleaser. One look at her self-compiled press kit, and you begin to appreciate her organizational skills as well. The intimate back room at 49 West is set aside as a listening room, and it is one of the few to feature a piano, which Byrdie put to good use. She is currently working on her second CD, while sales on her first are going quite well.
