A combination of talent, industrious promotion, and some well-timed press coincided to fill the Cowboy Cafe with ardent
Diana Quinn fans. Tonight, it was Honky Tonk Confidential, one of several bands conducted jointly by Diana and faithful sideman Mike Woods. What do Mike and Diana offer up from the set list? (Psst... note the monogrammed shirt in that last picture) You guessed it-- a twang-fest of Texas swing, rockabilly, and honest, pre-mercantile country music . Able sidemen include
Geff King, who's not only one of those singing bass players, he also adds a few self-penned numbers to the set list like "Honky Tonk 101." Also on hand was pedal steel player
Bobby Martin, who does spot duty on guitar, as evidenced by his faithful recreation of Luther Perkin's boom-chicka-boom on "Folsom Prison Blues." Mike and Diana themselves would make the Fender sales team proud, as both sported maple-neck Telecasters. My apologies to drummer Rob Howe, who was there, but who I couldn't get into view for a performance photo. Honky Tonk Confidential has a CD coming out very soon, and I, for one, am gonna pick up a copy.
Here's more info about Diana's bands and puppies.
